Bendigo bank surveys

Coffs Coast Advocate  10 December 2012

"I want to, in the word of the late Don Chipp, 'keep the bastards honest'," Mid Richmond community Bank committee member Ian Drinkwater said referring to the big four banks.

Mr Drinkwater said he is astounded, along with many others, at the salary and benefits received by CEOs of these big corporations.

"The CEOs for these banks receive such enormous total salary and benefits, totalling into the milions of dollars, from our banking with them," he said.

"Then there are the extremly handsome payments to directors sitting on one another's board."

For this reason Mr Drinkwater, who lives in Evans Head, is passionate about setting up a community bank in Woodburn and he is asking for help from the surrounding communities.

"At Bendigo community bank there are no highly paid CEOs, no rampant directors fees nor large dividends to institutions," he said.

"Profits generated here on our money are kept here within the community as determined by local people."

Pledges and surveys by local individuals will help make this bank a reality in the area and Mr Drinkwater is urging people to fill out the surveys they would have received in their letterboxes.

"We need surveys (that can also be done) online at www.research.net/AFS_Mid_Richmond_Feasability_Study before Friday, December 14," he said.

"We need pledges by individuals and we need business."
